Preferreds and protocol papers did more overnight work than the tape. On the site CoinGecko snapshot fetched at 00:24 UTC on September 2, 2026, Bitcoin was $77,337, down 1.9% over 24 hours. Ether was $2,417.28, down 2.3%. Solana was $99.95, down 3.3%. Global market cap sat near $2.62 trillion, bitcoin dominance was about 59.1%, and 24-hour volume was about $82.3 billion.
Strategy kept STRC at a 12.00% regular dividend and declared cash on its preferred stack. Aave Labs filed to list USDe on V4 Avalanche and said V4 deposits passed $800 million. Lido put $60,000 behind ValOS validator reviews. Ethresear.ch argued a width-four Poseidon2b instance still sits above published algebraic attacks. Magicians posted Tacet, an encrypted OP Stack mempool prototype. Kraken delayed Monad funding, then cleared it. Coinbase saw a short mobile glitch on prediction markets.
Strategy holds STRC at 12.00% and declares September preferred dividends
Strategy Inc filed an 8-K on September 1, 2026, covering an August 31 announcement that it will keep the STRC regular dividend at 12.00% for semi-monthly periods starting on or after September 16, 2026. The board declared cash payable September 30 to holders of record at 5:00 p.m. New York time on September 15 (London time for STRE): $2.50 on STRF, $0.50 on STRC for that window, €2.50 on STRE, $2.00 on STRK, and $2.50 on STRD, plus a second STRC $0.50 payable October 15 to holders of record September 30. As of September 1, the company expects those payouts to be non-taxable returns of capital to the extent of a holder tax basis, and management will recommend keeping 12.00% until STRC shows sustained, healthy trading near $100 a share. This filing is preferred cash, not a new bitcoin purchase.
Aave Labs files a Direct-to-AIP to list USDe on V4 Avalanche
Aave Labs posted a Direct-to-AIP on September 1, 2026, to onboard USDe to the Aave V4 Core Instance on Avalanche. USDe is Ethena Labs synthetic dollar, targeting one U.S. dollar with staked collateral and offsetting perpetual futures held largely offchain. Labs says Ethena has already extended USDe, and its staked form, to Avalanche, and that a listing would add a synthetic dollar to that V4 instance. Risk parameters are not in the post yet; Risk Service Providers are supposed to supply the final configuration before an AIP vote, and Labs states it has no direct financial relationship with Ethena and was not paid for the proposal.
Aave Labs says V4 deposits passed $800 million in August
Aave Labs posted its August 2026 development update on September 1. The team said Aave V4 deposits across Ethereum and Avalanche surpassed $800 million, while active loans reached a record high, and it executed supply and borrow cap adjustment rounds 12, 13, 14, and 15 on those V4 deployments. The same note says Coinbase Tokenized Stocks on Base named Aave as the sole credit infrastructure in Coinbase's announcement, and that EtherFi Cash went live on Aave V4 on Optimism with EtherFi reporting more than 100,000 cardholders. Labs is coordinating a Certora audit of the V4 configuration and deployment engines, so this is a service-provider recap, not a new onchain AIP by itself.
Lido published a blog on August 31, 2026, introducing ValOS, the Validator Operations Standard, as a community-driven framework for Ethereum node operators. The post says Lido DAO funded framework development through LEGO, and that ValOS builds on the DUCK initiative Risk Framework, Mitigation and Controls Library, and Communications Toolkit. To push early adoption, Lido DAO will allocate $60,000 to the DUCK FLAP grant pool through LEGO, covering up to 50% of assurance review costs for early node-operator adopters. The stated goal is a recognised assurance standard, with more detail at valos.global; this is funded process work, not a change to stETH issuance.
Ethresear.ch: width-four Poseidon2b still sits above published attacks
An Ethresear.ch post dated August 31, 2026, answers an earlier thread that said Poseidon hash for Ethereum is not secure. The author pins a production Poseidon2b instance: field GF(2^128), state width t=4, rate 2, capacity 2, S-box x^7, RF=8 full rounds, and RP=58 partial rounds. They argue the Skipping Class paper's main wide-state round-skipping method applies to widths 12, 16, 20, and 24, not this width-four sponge, and that the paper's algebraic projection for those exact parameters does not fall below a 128-bit security target. The claim is checkable against a pinned implementation, not a blanket blessing of every Poseidon flavor.
Magicians: Tacet prototypes an encrypted mempool for the OP Stack
On August 27, 2026, Ethereum Magicians received Tacet, a working prototype for a trust-minimized encrypted mempool on the OP Stack. Transactions are threshold-encrypted before they reach the sequencer, ordering is committed before anyone including the sequencer can read contents, then a t-of-n keyper set releases decryption shares so the batch executes at the top of the next block. The post says this uses no trusted hardware and no permissioned validator set, sitting between live TEE block builders and enshrined L1 designs such as EIP-8105 and EIP-8184. The first application named is regulated order flow; the cryptographic DKG path is described as reproducible today, with op-geth integration implemented and remaining work to converge the standalone keyper prototype.
Kraken delayed Monad deposits and withdrawals, then marked them resolved
Kraken opened an incident at 05:33 UTC on September 1, 2026, for the Monad (MON) funding gateway. Deposits and withdrawals may be delayed, the status page said, while all other funding methods were operating normally, and the incident affected Digital Currency Funding for Monad (MON). Kraken marked it resolved at 14:17 UTC the same day. This is a venue funding delay, not a Monad chain halt, and it is separate from the Injective gateway ticket that sat on yesterday's tape.
Coinbase hit a five-minute mobile glitch on prediction markets
Coinbase posted a prediction-markets incident at 15:32 PDT on September 1, 2026 (22:32 UTC). Customers may experience degraded performance on the Prediction Markets tab on mobile, the page said, while web was working as normal and funds were safe. Identified, monitoring, and resolved updates all landed at 15:37 PDT, five minutes after the first note. This was a short mobile UI issue, not a trading halt or a custody event.
