U.S. cash desks were back after Labor Day, and the overnight tape mixed a fresh Core EIP draft with DeFi spells and venue status pages. The CoinGecko snapshot fetched at 00:05 UTC on September 9, 2026, Bitcoin was $78,526, down 0.7% over 24 hours. Ether was $2,488.43, up 0.04%. Solana was $103.57, down 0.1%. Global market cap sat near $2.69 trillion, bitcoin dominance about 58.3%, and 24-hour volume about $91.4 billion.
GitHub opened a Draft Core EIP that splits stake creation from validator registration. Lido asked LDO holders to name Leeward as BORG supervisor. Sky teed a 10x USDS mint cap for September 24 and a 5% delayed MKR-to-SKY penalty for September 10. Coinbase closed a 25-minute ATOM lag, and Kraken restored CRO funding after nine days.
GitHub opens a Draft Core EIP that splits staking from validator keys
Kevaundray Wedderburn opened GitHub pull request 12306 at 00:13 UTC on September 9, 2026, as a Draft Core EIP titled Decouple Stake from Validator Registration. The file still uses the template placeholder name, and the draft requires EIP-7251. An execution-layer staking contract would take ETH, withdrawal credentials, and a versioned authorization commitment, then return a StakeID before any validator exists. A later registration step would send that StakeID plus BLS key material to the consensus layer, so top-ups and exits can cite the stake position instead of the public key.
Lido Alliance asks LDO holders to name Leeward as BORG supervisor
Lido Labs Operations posted at 07:35 UTC on September 8, 2026 that the Lido Alliance BORG Foundation wants Leeward Supervisors Limited as its new Supervisor. Leeward already holds that office at the Lido Labs Foundation. MetaLeX Pro, LLP has been in the seat on a temporary basis and would resign once the new appointment takes effect. Subject to community feedback, LDO holders would vote on Snapshot in the next voting slot, then the Cayman Islands board would implement the change under the BORG bylaws.
Sky's September 24 Osero spell would 10x USDS mint and spUSDS deposit caps
Stablewatch posted technical scope at 20:23 UTC on September 8, 2026 for two Osero actions on Ethereum mainnet. The September 24, 2026 Osero spell would grant DEFAULT_ADMIN_ROLE on Osero AccessControls and ALM RateLimits to the Sky PAS Configurator at 0xb7E61Df6CAb0A51E9A5dab1A7DD3f942dDe5b929, and would raise USDS mint and SparkLend USDS (spUSDS) deposit rate limits from 5 million to 50 million USDS on both maxAmount and the daily slope. USDS burn and SparkLend USDS withdrawals stay unlimited. Pre-state figures in the post are from mainnet block 25897166 on September 3, 2026 (chainlog 1.20.20); a later, unscheduled Sky Core spell would still be needed to register Osero as a PAS cBEAM.
September 10 Sky spell would lift the delayed MKR-to-SKY penalty to 5%
Sky contributor ldr wrote on September 4, 2026 that the September 10 spell will raise the Delayed Upgrade Penalty on the MKR to SKY conversion contract from 4% to 5%. Atlas rule A.4.1.2.1.1.1.1 set the penalty at 1% in the September 18, 2025 executive vote and calls for a 1 percentage point increase every three months. If the spell passes, it would keep that calendar. This is a proposed spell action, not an executed rate yet.
Ethresear.ch proposes MATCHA mempool width for shared Frame senders
Thomas (soispoke) posted MATCHA on Ethresear.ch at 13:51 UTC on September 8, 2026. Frame Transactions under EIP-8141 normally admit at most one pending frame per sender, but EIP-8250 keyed nonces would let privacy apps share one sender. MATCHA is a local mempool policy: extra admissions spend width that a sender earns only from gas used by its Frame Transactions in finalized blocks, and spent width is not returned when a transaction leaves the mempool. The post also points at the FOCIL Frame extension in EIP-8369 as a way to make flooding more expensive.
