Crypto brief: September 10, 2026

Overnight DeFi and L2 forums did the work while spot prices drifted lower. The CoinGecko snapshot fetched at 00:18 UTC on September 10, 2026 put Bitcoin at $78,281, down 0.5% over 24 hours. Ether was $2,468.43, down 1.0%. Solana was $101.45, down 2.1%. Global market cap sat near $2.68 trillion, bitcoin dominance about 58.6%, and 24-hour volume about $94.7 billion.

OP Labs filed Upgrade 20, an L1-only Superchain contracts cut that moves fault proofs onto Super Root Dispute Games without turning interop on. LlamaRisk posted a Risk Stewards batch that lifts Slope1 on about $6.18 billion of Aave V3 stablecoin debt and raises USDe base rates to 6%. A Compound forum user asked COMP holders to claim ultimate control of Institutional Comet. Ethresear.ch simulated Glamsterdam’s jump from a 60 million to a 200 million gas limit.

The tape sits next to Bitcoin history, Ethereum history, and Solana history. Pair the Aave and Compound notes with DeFi and layer 2, and the venue windows with how to check exchange and withdrawal status.

  1. OP Labs files Upgrade 20 Super Root games, not interop

OP Labs senior solutions engineer Andrea Federici posted Upgrade 20 on the Optimism Collective forum at 21:11 UTC on September 9, 2026. The package is an L1 contracts upgrade for OP Stack chains with no L2 hardfork: it moves fault proofs from Output Root Dispute Games to Super Root Dispute Games (SUPER_PERMISSIONED type 5 and SUPER_CANNON_KONA type 9) as a prerequisite for interop, without calling OPCM.migrate() or turning interop on. Users need no action and existing withdrawal proofs stay valid; apps using viem/op-stack are told to move to viem 2.51.0 or later. Target execution is September 17, 2026 on Sepolia (OP Sepolia, Ink Sepolia, Soneium Minato, Unichain Sepolia) and September 24, 2026 on mainnet for OP, Ink, Soneium, and Unichain, pending governance and a seven-day Sepolia soak, with canonical OPCM 0x1951828ce913dc4383a8a1695695d537a11d896a and a Spearbit/Cantina audit closed August 21, 2026.

  2. LlamaRisk lifts Aave V3 Slope1 and USDe base rates

LlamaRisk posted a September 9, 2026 Risk Stewards note at 16:39 UTC recommending Aave V3 parameter changes. Slope1 rises 10 basis points on sixteen stablecoin reserves across eleven deployments that carry about $6.18 billion of debt, excluding USDe. On Core, Plasma, Monad, Mantle, and Avalanche, the USDe base rate rises 100 basis points to 6.00% and Slope1 falls 100 basis points, covering about $323.8 million of USDe debt against about $1.18 billion supplied. On X Layer, LlamaRisk would cut USD₮0 Slope2 from 40% to 20% and lift the PT-USDG-29OCT2026 supply cap from 70 million to 140 million after 93.4% utilization; the PT matures October 29, 2026.

  3. Compound user asks DAO to take Institutional Comet control

Compound forum user ugurmersin posted at 10:46 UTC on September 9, 2026 that Compound Governance does not appear to hold ultimate control of Institutional Comet. Published market terms, the post says, make the Treasury Management Committee a full administrator while a separate Safe controls parameters and collateral, with no timeline or revocation path for COMP holders that the author could find. The draft resolution would declare that ultimate control belongs with Compound Governance and ask current administrators to facilitate a transfer, without asking the Foundation to stop operating the market or stripping TMC operational permissions. ugurmersin intends an on-chain COMP vote after the forum period and notes this proposal cannot itself seize the keys.

  4. Ethresear.ch simulates Glamsterdam fees from 60M to 200M gas

Ethereum researcher misilva73 posted a Glamsterdam fee-market simulation on Ethresear.ch at 07:43 UTC on September 9, 2026. The report replays about 21 days of historical mainnet transactions through an instrumented reth fork, then simulates the first 7,200 blocks (about one day) under twelve demand scenarios with the new gas schedule live from block one. The gas limit starts at 60 million and rises by about 1/1024 of its prior value each block, reaching 200 million at block 1,234 (about four hours), after which the EIP-1559 target sits at 100 million. Nine of twelve demand scenarios settle with median utilisation near that target and median base fees from 0.0002 to 0.3928 gwei; the other three stay below target even with an almost negligible base fee.

  5. EF Protocol Cluster sets a September 16 Reddit AMA

The Ethereum Foundation Protocol Cluster posted on September 9, 2026 that researchers and developers will take questions on r/ethereum on September 16, 2026 at 2 PM UTC. The desk has run the format since January 2019: one thread, technical debate, and answers from people working on core development. The post flags Glamsterdam in public testing and Hegotá still being narrowed, and lists possible topics including post-quantum Ethereum, L1-zkEVM, formal verification, the future of state, decoupled consensus, L1 privacy, specifications, clients, and devnets. Questions are being collected in advance so the cluster can cover a wider set of threads.

  6. Magicians draft ERC-8412 preregistered acceptance criteria

On September 7, 2026 at 06:24 UTC, Magicians user richard7463 opened a pre-ERC discussion titled ERC-8412: Preregistered Acceptance Criteria. The draft has a paying party register a digest of acceptance criteria and a packed list of typed evidence obligations before any evidence exists, then requires the verifier to itemize each obligation as MET, WAIVED, UNMET, or NOT_APPLICABLE. The contract would revert, not merely flag, an attestation that calls the outcome satisfied while a required obligation is recorded UNMET. The point, the post argues, is judged work that cannot be recomputed, from model samples above temperature zero to physical inspections, which ERC-8404 parks permanently in CANNOT_RECOMPUTE; eight obligations would cost two bytes.

  7. Kraken restores GLMR and MOVR withdrawals, deposits still lag

Kraken opened a minor incident at 11:38 UTC on September 9, 2026 for Moonbeam (GLMR) and Moonriver (MOVR) funding delays, saying deposits and withdrawals may be delayed while other funding methods operate normally. At 14:06 UTC the venue said withdrawals on both assets were enabled again and that deposits may still be delayed. The incident remained in investigating status after that update. Spot traders waiting on those two rails should treat deposit timing as unresolved until Kraken marks the incident resolved.
