Bitcoin barely moved while two regulators and a miner filing did the talking. The CoinGecko snapshot fetched at 00:24 UTC on September 18, 2026 put Bitcoin at $76,298, down 0.10%. Ether was $2,438.78, up 0.67%. Solana was $101.18, up 2.31%. Global market cap sat near $2.63 trillion, bitcoin dominance about 58.1%, and 24-hour volume about $78.0 billion.
CFTC staff issued letter 26-25 so providers of passive trading software can skip introducing-broker registration when they only sell tools that talk to registered futures firms. The UK FCA, with HMRC and the Met Police, posted cease-and-desist letters at three London peer-to-peer crypto sites. Bitdeer mined 1,310 bitcoin in August and put AI-cloud ARR near $86 million. Researchers measured EIP-8411 payload segmentation. Consensys shipped Teku 26.9.0 with Gloas fixes. Sky posted the technical scope for Osero cBEAM. Kraken closed a deposit-credit outage. Compound asked to change rsETH oracles on Unichain and Linea.
CFTC staff extends no-action to providers of passive trading software
The CFTC Market Participants Division issued Staff Letter 26-25 on September 17, 2026. Press release 9300-26 says the position is similar to Staff Letter 26-09 and is now broadly available to providers of passive software. Subject to specified conditions, the division will not recommend enforcement for failure to register as an introducing broker, or as an associated person of an introducing broker, solely for providing and marketing software that lets users trade with registered futures commission merchants, introducing brokers, and designated contract markets.
FCA posts cease-and-desist letters at three London P2P crypto sites
The FCA, HM Revenue and Customs, and the Metropolitan Police targeted three premises in London suspected of illegal peer-to-peer crypto trading. Cease-and-desist letters were issued at all three sites, requiring traders to stop any suspected illegal crypto businesses. The operation ran on September 10, 2026, under the 2017 money-laundering regulations, and the FCA said there are currently no FCA-registered peer-to-peer crypto businesses operating in the UK. The action follows April operations now feeding criminal investigations, and crypto remains largely unregulated in the UK except for anti-money-laundering and financial-promotion rules until October 2027.
Bitdeer mines 1,310 bitcoin in August as AI-cloud ARR hits $86 million
Bitdeer Technologies Group filed a 6-K on September 16, 2026 with an unaudited August operations update dated September 17. It mined 1,310 bitcoin in August, up from 1,190 in July and 375 in August 2025, a 249% year-over-year rise, while bitcoin held fell to 61 from 257 in July. Total proprietary hash rate reached 84.1 EH/s, including 79.9 EH/s of self-mining, and co-mining added 21.6 EH/s. AI-cloud ARR was about $86 million, up from about $76 million, and Bitdeer said its 9.5 MW A102 Malaysia facility is 100% contracted for more than $800 million of expected revenue, with recognition expected in the first quarter of 2027, plus a 16-year Tydal, Norway lease of about $4.7 billion of total contract value.
EIP-8411 sims: segmented payloads drop home-builder delivery under a second
Csaba Kiraly published an Ethresear post on September 17, 2026 that takes EIP-8411 segmented payload diffusion apart. The only consensus change is a Merkle tree commitment in the bid, with each segment verified against it before it is forwarded. In a home-builder simulation that runs real Prysm and go-libp2p-pubsub code, whole-payload gossip reached half the nodes in 5 seconds, while tier-1 segmentation with batch publishing cut a 1 MiB median to under a second and used about a third more bytes than today. Three implementation tiers are sketched, and the numbers come from a 500-node harness, not a mainnet fork vote.
Teku 26.9.0 patches Gloas duties and drops deposit snapshots
Consensys published Teku 26.9.0 on September 17, 2026 as a recommended update with bug fixes and breaking changes. It promotes the validators-external-signer-concurrent-limit flag to a non-experimental option with a maximum of 1024, removes the deposit-snapshot-enabled and experimental deposit-snapshot CLI options, enables aircompressor-v3 by default for gossip and RPC snappy, and adds native Plataberget support. Fixes include first-epoch validator duties after a post-genesis Gloas fork that previously failed with a Fulu state error, Gloas genesis block matching, and data-column sidecar gossip decoding that used the wrong fork schema when Gloas was scheduled.
Sky posts the technical scope to activate Osero cBEAM
Sidestream posted the technical scope on September 17, 2026 for activating cBEAM on Osero's PAU. The goal is to let trusted operator groups, CoreCouncil and cBEAM, change Osero's Diamond PAU module, including rate limits, without a new spell for each tweak. The Configurator Unit launched in the August 27, 2026 spell still has a paused Timelock, so a Core spell is still required to add new PAUs to it. Named calls include BeamState setCBeamForRateLimits on 0xE9a78f34fe497e2186f81B8c014cd93B308BC62a.
Kraken Status opened Deposit Processing Issues at 11:09 UTC on September 17, 2026 after some successfully received deposits were not credited to client balances. At 11:56 UTC it said the issue had been mitigated, new deposits were processing normally, and the team was working to credit deposits affected during the incident. The incident was marked resolved at 17:50 UTC, with minor impact. Kraken did not publish a coin-by-coin list or a remaining backlog count.
Compound would drop Unichain rsETH after Kelp L2 oracle sunset
Woof posted on Compound governance on September 16, 2026 that Kelp Finance notified the protocol the rsETH price feeds from Kelp and RedStone on layer-2 networks will be deprecated. The Ethereum mainnet rsETH feed is not affected. On the Unichain WETH market, rsETH collateral factor and supply cap are already set to 0, so the proposal is to deprecate the feed and the asset rather than mix a Chainlink feed into a RedStone market. On the Linea WETH market, a Chainlink rsETH exchange-rate feed is available, and Compound would migrate to that feed before preparing an onchain vote.
