Crypto brief: August 25, 2026

Bitcoin bounced while Solana led the majors. Filings outran a finished ETF print. On the site CoinGecko snapshot fetched at 00:24 UTC on August 25, 2026, Bitcoin was $78,787, up 1.7% over 24 hours. Ether was $2,476.57, up 1.0%. Solana was $99.90, up 5.3%. XRP was $1.48, down 1.5%. Global market cap sat near $2.66 trillion, bitcoin dominance was about 59.0%, and 24-hour volume was about $124.4 billion.

Bitmine told the SEC its ether stack is now 5,847,611 tokens. Strive bought 1,110 bitcoin last week. Datacentrex said prepaid Scrypt miners finally have colocation. Erigon shipped 3.6.0. Ethresear.ch distilled enshrined proposer-builder separation. Coinbase closed a short PayPal-withdrawal hitch. Kraken is investigating KiiChain deposits.

Farside’s Monday bitcoin ETF row is still filling in, with IBIT and FBTC still blank, so we are not treating the $20.8 million stub as a finished session print. Bitcoin history still sits next to that incomplete spot ETF tape. Ethereum history is the client and research side of this brief. Watch exchange status pages next to the candles, and keep liquidity in view if a rail stalls.

  1. Bitmine reports 5.85 million ETH and $14.9 billion of crypto plus cash

Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR) said in an August 24 SEC exhibit that, as of 2:00 p.m. ET on August 23, 2026, it held 5,847,611 ETH marked at $2,440 each on Coinbase, plus 210 BTC, a $180 million Beast Industries stake, an $89 million Eightco (NASDAQ: ORBS) stake, and $308 million of cash and marketable securities. The company put crypto plus cash plus those moonshot holdings at $14.9 billion and said the ether stack is 4.8% of a 120.7 million ETH supply, with 5,067,309 ETH staked (about $12.4 billion at the same $2,440 mark). Chairman Tom Lee said the firm bought 32,447 ETH over the past week and has bought ether every week since the treasury strategy started on June 30, 2025. This is an issuer holding update, not a protocol change. The 30% weekly ETH gain commentary in the same exhibit is the company's read, not a desk forecast.

  2. Strive buys 1,110 bitcoin, lifting holdings to 21,356 BTC

Strive, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASST) filed an 8-K dated August 24, 2026 saying it purchased 1,110 bitcoin from August 17 through August 21 at an average of about $73,409 per bitcoin, inclusive of fees and expenses. Holdings rose from 20,246 BTC as of August 14 to 21,356 BTC as of August 21. Cash and cash equivalents rose from $154.8 million to $171.9 million over the same dates, STRC preferred shares held stayed at 505,000, Class A common stock outstanding rose by 3,646,300 shares to 79,890,888, and SATA preferred stock rose from 7,829,502 to 8,270,815 shares. This is Strive's own bitcoin treasury print, not Strategy Inc.'s separate USD Cash ATM story from the same calendar day.

  3. Datacentrex will energize 500-plus prepaid Scrypt miners in 30 days

Datacentrex, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTCX) said on August 24, 2026 it secured colocation for more than 500 additional ElphaPex DG2 Scrypt ASIC miners that were purchased and paid for in a prior period, with delivery and energization expected within 30 days and no incremental hardware-acquisition spend. The company currently operates 3,085 Scrypt ASIC miners, about 43.2 TH/s of deployed hashrate, and about 12.5 MW across four U.S. colocation sites. Full energization is expected to add about 9.0 TH/s, taking deployed hashrate to about 52 TH/s, a 21% increase. The exhibit cites a roughly 32% Dogecoin move over seven days ended August 21 via TradingView. Our CoinGecko snapshot at 00:24 UTC on August 25 puts DOGE at $0.089967, down 2.7% over 24 hours, so treat the company's week-ago chart cite as theirs, not today's tape.

  4. Erigon 3.6.0 ships Caplin payload timing and new snapshot formats

Erigon v3.6.0 landed on GitHub at 18:49 UTC on August 24, 2026 as a production release, not a pre-release. The notes headline more reliable Caplin block production, with payload building starting before proposer slots, plus pruned nodes reclaiming old state snapshots and new plain commitment snapshots that store values directly. Most 3.5 users can upgrade without a re-sync, but writing the new snapshot format cannot be rolled back to 3.5, historical receipts are off by default on fresh datadirs, and idle JSON-RPC polling filters now expire after five minutes. Operators who want the new commitment files immediately are told to run the documented erigon seg reset path before the next start. This is client software, not a consensus fork.

  5. Ethresear.ch distills ePBS ahead of Glamsterdam, not a live feature

Mike Neuder posted ePBS, distilled on ethresear.ch at 17:28 UTC on August 24, 2026, a research write-up of enshrined proposer-builder separation as it sits ahead of EIP-7732's scheduled inclusion in the Glamsterdam hard fork. The post says MEV-boost still builds about 90% of Ethereum blocks today and walks through how in-protocol PBS would take over the relay's fair-exchange job: publish only if the block will be canonical, and pay the proposer the winning bid. It is not a live mainnet feature and not a client release. Treat it as a Glamsterdam design note. Named reviewers are thanked in the post, and that thanks does not imply agreement.

  6. ACDC #186 is set for September 3 with a Glamsterdam header

Ethereum Magicians posted the calendar thread for All Core Devs - Consensus (ACDC) #186 on August 24, 2026, with meeting time Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 14:00 UTC for 90 minutes. The agenda headers on the thread are Glamsterdam, Hegota (as spelled on the thread), and Misc. That is a scheduled consensus call, not a fork activation and not a client vote. Watch the call notes after September 3 before treating any header as a shipped change.

  7. Coinbase resolves a 16-minute PayPal withdrawal degradation

Coinbase Status opened Degraded Performance - PayPal Withdrawals at 11:19 PDT on August 24, 2026, saying some users may see latency or degraded performance withdrawing funds to PayPal, with funds described as safe. Identified, monitoring, and resolved updates all posted at 11:35 PDT the same day, so the public incident window was about 16 minutes. The incident affected Payment Methods (PayPal). This is a fiat off-ramp hitch, not an on-chain send delay, and it is distinct from the Arbitrum ETH receive incident the desk already logged.

  8. Kraken investigates delayed KiiChain deposits

Kraken Status opened an investigating note at 00:12 UTC on August 25, 2026 for KiiChain (KII) deposit delays. The incident says deposits may be delayed, while trading and withdrawals remain fully enabled and other funding methods are operating normally. This is a live gateway investigation, not a resolved postmortem. It is a different asset from the TAC and SAND incidents already in yesterday's brief.
