Crypto brief: October 20, 2026

Why today matters

Bitcoin treasury filings and Ethereum plumbing shared the desk on October 20. Strive said it now holds 36,818 bitcoin after buying another 1,223 coins through October 16, and Super League stockholders approved Metaplanet’s plan to seed a U.S. vehicle with 2,100 bitcoin. That close is still a fourth-quarter event. Onchain, Aave Labs queued Tether’s USAT on Avalanche, Magicians opened a shared computational gas factor, and researchers posted a 28.6 millisecond privacy-pool proof. Spark already rotated Morpho guardian keys, Lido is still arguing its BNB Chain bridge threshold, and Kraken scheduled a 60-minute order-entry pause for 09:00 UTC on October 21.

Market context from our live snapshot at 2026-10-20T00:14:32+00:00: Bitcoin at $81,726 (about −0.4% over 24 hours), Ethereum at $2,399.34 (−0.4%), Solana at $104.62 (+0.6%). Global market cap sat near $2.75 trillion with bitcoin dominance about 59.6% and 24-hour volume near $69.5 billion. See our Bitcoin history, Ethereum history, and stablecoin notes. 1. Strive adds 1,223 bitcoin and lifts its stack to 36,818

Strive's October 19 8-K says the firm bought 4,045 bitcoin from October 12 through October 16 at about $82,803 each, including fees. That tally includes the 2,822 bitcoin it already disclosed on October 14, plus 1,223 more bought October 14 through 16 at about $81,734. Holdings rose to 36,818 bitcoin as of October 16 from 32,773 a week earlier, while cash and cash equivalents ticked up to $317.5 million. Traditional warrants from the Asset Entities merger are gone after $369.2 million of exercises, and the 7 million SATS preferred shares priced at $90 were still unsettled as of those dates, with a scheduled close on October 20.

  2. Super League stockholders approve Metaplanet's 2,100 bitcoin seed

Super League Enterprise told investors on October 19 that stockholders approved every Metaplanet-related proposal at the October 16 annual meeting, including a Nasdaq Rule 5635 issuance of up to 435,859,500 common shares. Under the August 18 subscription agreements, Metaplanet Holdings would contribute 2,100 bitcoin plus $2.5 million in cash, marked at about $132.1 million on the August 14 reference print and about $170.0 million as of October 16. At a close still aimed at the fourth quarter of 2026, Super League would rename to Superplanet, Inc., trade as SUPA, and issue 44,859,400 common shares at $3.00 plus 100 convertible preferred shares and ten-year warrants covering up to 381 million shares. Metaplanet agreed to a five-year lock-up on those closing shares. This is a stockholder yes, not a completed treasury transfer.

  3. Aave Labs files a Direct-to-AIP to list USAT on Avalanche V4

Aave Labs posted a Direct-to-AIP on October 19 to onboard USAT, Tether's U.S. dollar token, to the Aave V4 Core instance on Avalanche. The post says USAT is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A., a federally chartered national trust bank under OCC supervision, is subject to the GENIUS Act, and is redeemable 1:1 for U.S. dollars. The token address given on Snowtrace is 0x9A5926fd88F747c357738b1e82aFB46AB80f0A6b. Risk parameters are still blank pending Risk Service Providers, and Labs says it has no paid relationship with Anchorage or Tether on this listing. It is a queued listing path, not a live market.

  4. Ethresear: a Flock privacy pool proves a depth-32 withdrawal in 28.6 ms

Researchers Pierre and winderica posted an Ethresear.ch write-up on October 19 that ports a Tornado Cash-style privacy pool onto Flock, a hash-based binary-field SNARK they treat as plausibly post-quantum. A depth-32 withdrawal needs 34 SHA-256 compressions; proving one compression at a time cut prover time at depth 32 from 0.81 seconds to 28.6 milliseconds, about 28 times faster, on a 266 KiB witness. They also sketch a ZIP 2005-style recovery path that derives note secrets from a wallet seed so existing pools can survive a discrete-log break. This is a benchmark and a spec, not a mainnet pool.

  5. Magicians draft EIP-8445, a shared CPCU factor for computational gas

Ethereum Magicians opened discussion on October 19 for EIP-8445, which would add a common computational gas scaling factor called CPCU, short for cost per computational unit. At activation CPCU would be 1 gas per CU, so today's computational opcode prices would not jump. Later forks could move CPCU in one place instead of repricing each opcode, a cousin of EIP-8037's CPSB parameter for state-creation costs. The factor would stay fixed inside a fork and would not float with the block gas limit. It is a Magicians draft, not a scheduled hard fork.

  6. Spark rotated Morpho guardian keys on October 13, then asked for a ratification poll

Phoenix Labs says Spark's Morpho guardian and curator Safe rotations actually ran on Ethereum and Base on October 13. The guardian Safe 0xf5748bBeFa17505b2F7222B23ae11584932C908B moved from a 3-of-5 to a 2-of-3 Operational GovOps quorum as polled. The curator Safe 0x0f963A8A8c01042B69054e787E5763ABbB0646A3 landed as a 2-of-2 between a Spark operations Safe and a Soter Labs Safe, which the October 16 update says diverged from the original poll text. On October 19, Endgame Edge cleared a Snapshot ratification poll, bundled with SAEP-24, so governance can bless the executed curator layout. Treat the keys as already moved, and the poll as paperwork.

  7. Lido's BNB Chain bridge vote is still arguing 2-of-3 versus 2-of-4

Lido contributors asked DAO voters to drop the dead Wormhole adapter from BNB Chain governance forwarding after Wormhole shut automatic Standard Relayer delivery on April 1, 2026, and to cut the confirmation threshold from 3-of-4 to 2-of-3 among Chainlink CCIP, LayerZero, and Hyperlane. Follow-up posts through October 19 argue that 2-of-3 may double-count overlapping operators, and the original author now prefers keeping all four adapters at 2-of-4 with Wormhole as a manual-delivery spare. CrossChainExecutor still owns wstETH on BNB Chain, so a confirmed message can change token admin controls. No threshold change has executed. The live question is availability versus how independent those remaining bridges really are.

  8. Kraken schedules a 60-minute order-entry pause at 09:00 UTC October 21

Kraken scheduled order-entry system maintenance for Wednesday, October 21, starting about 09:00 UTC and lasting up to 60 minutes. During that window, Kraken Pro web, mobile, and desktop clients may see a small number of rejected order submissions or modifications. WebSocket API users may see the same plus extra latency, and FIX API clients may face several seconds when new or changed orders are rejected. The status post says no customer action is required. It is a trading-pipe pause, not a funding halt.
