Crypto brief: October 23, 2026

Why today matters

Ethereum just pulled the October 26 clock on Hoodi. Core developers postponed Glamsterdam on ACDE #248 to keep studying how EIP-8037 would touch live contracts, and the Ethereum Foundation set no replacement epoch. That is a testnet delay, not a mainnet date. 21Shares told ARK it will end the ARKB marketing contract on December 22 and plans to move the ticker to TBIT on December 15. Tron Inc. said its Super Representative node is No. 1 with about 3.71 billion delegated TRX. Aave cap cuts, a post-quantum validator-key draft, encrypted-mempool research, delayed Tezos withdrawals, and a short Coinbase send pause round out the desk.

Market context from our live snapshot at 2026-10-23T00:13:51+00:00: Bitcoin at $81,124 (about โˆ’3.67% over 24 hours), Ethereum at $2,381.68 (โˆ’3.92%), Solana at $103.42 (โˆ’3.47%). 1. Ethereum postpones Hoodi's October 26 Glamsterdam fork

The Ethereum Foundation said Hoodi's Glamsterdam upgrade, previously set for 17:42:48 UTC on October 26, 2026 (epoch 132,352), is postponed with no replacement timestamp. Core developers made the call on ACDE #248 to keep studying how EIP-8037 would interact with live mainnet contracts, unscheduling Amsterdam, Gloas, and the 200 million gas-limit bump at that epoch. The Foundation said this rolls back a future upgrade config, does not rewind Hoodi history, and does not set a mainnet date. Its post already listed Nethermind 2.2.1 and Besu 26.10.1 as Hoodi builds that drop the old clock, and it warned operators not to treat the earlier release tables as proof they include this delay.

  2. 21Shares will drop ARK from ARKB and aims to trade TBIT

An 8-K dated October 22 says 21Shares US LLC, sponsor of the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB), gave ARK Investment Management notice on October 16 that it will terminate their marketing and sub-advisory Support Services Agreement effective December 22, 2026. The sponsor says it elected to terminate under the contract's terms. In connection with that notice, 21Shares intends on December 15, 2026, to rename the trust 21Shares Bitcoin ETF and to change the Cboe BZX ticker to TBIT. The filing is a sponsor plan, not a confirmation that the exchange has already switched the symbol.

  3. Tron Inc. says its Super Representative node is ranked No. 1

Tron Inc. (Nasdaq: TRON) furnished an October 21 press release saying community delegation has lifted its Super Representative node to No. 1 in the current rankings, with about 3.71 billion delegated TRX as of that date. The company, which calls itself the largest publicly traded TRX holder, said it intends to run multiple nodes to deepen on-chain revenue. CEO Rich Miller framed the rank as a community vote of confidence. The 8-K is an FD disclosure of the company's own statement, not an independent ranking dump.

  4. Magicians open EIP-8450, a dormant post-quantum validator key registry

A Magicians thread dated October 22 drafts EIP-8450, a beacon-state registry where each validator would register one leanXMSS hash-based public key bound to its existing index. The draft uses a two-layer tree with 2^32 leaf indices and Keccak-256 hashing, with registration as a new beacon-block operation authorized by the BLS signing key or by the withdrawal address through an EIP-7685 request. The keys would stay dormant in this fork, with duties switching only in a later fork, so the registry is a readiness count rather than a live signing change. Author tcoratger pointed to EIP PR #12550 and asked consensus-layer teams and staking pools for review; the post lists no external reviews as of October 22.

  5. Ethresear prices the free option in encrypted mempools

Arian Araghi posted on Ethresear.ch on October 22 that a sender who can wait to reveal an encrypted transaction holds a free option, and that fees alone do not price it well. The note bounds that endogenous option and, using about 51% ether implied vol over an 8-second window, puts the exogenous option near 1 basis point, with a fee near 6 basis points enough in the model to cap exercise at 1%. The proposed Blind Simultaneous Release construction uses only hashes, so the author calls it post-quantum, and the companion repo lists 107 Lean 4 theorems. This is research with a paper, not a mainnet spec or a client release.

  6. LlamaRisk posts Aave V3 cap cuts and a USDT rate-curve tweak

LlamaRisk's October 20 Risk Stewards note recommends cutting the Aave V3 Core USDe supply cap from 400 million to 300 million, LINK from 11.4 million to 9 million, and rETH from 49,000 to 40,000, plus lowering USDT optimal utilization from 94% to 92%. At the posted 85.6% USDT utilization (about 2.89 billion supplied and 2.48 billion borrowed), it said the variable borrow rate would move from 4.10% to 4.19% APR and the supply rate from 3.16% to 3.22% APR, while the rate at the optimal point stays 4.50% APR. The same post also cuts Plasma USDe borrow and PT-sUSDE-22OCT2026 supply caps from 100 million to 50 million, and trims Polygon WPOL caps. These are steward recommendations on the forum, not a claim that the on-chain payload has already executed.

  7. Kraken is investigating delayed Tezos withdrawals

Kraken's status page marked Tezos (XTZ) withdrawal delays as identified at 17:04 UTC on October 22. The update said the team is working on the issue and will post more when it has it. The incident was still in the identified state when we read the status API, not resolved. This is a venue delay on XTZ withdrawals, not a chain halt.

  8. Coinbase schedules a 10-minute BTC and ETH send pause on October 24

Coinbase booked system maintenance for October 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 10:10 a.m. ET (14:00 to 14:10 UTC). During that window, sends and receives of Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Zcash, Dash, and ether plus ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum and Ethereum Classic may be delayed, and users may be unable to create a new receive address for those assets. The notice said buying, selling, and trading are not impacted. It is a ten-minute scheduled pause, not an unplanned outage.
