Crypto brief: October 27, 2026

Why today matters

The tape is quieter than the calendar. Bitcoin was $80,127, up about 0.09% on the 24-hour print, and ether was $2,324.82, down 0.14%, in a CoinGecko snapshot fetched at 2026-10-27T00:25:27+00:00. Solana printed $100.79 (−0.51%). Combined market cap sat near $2.70 trillion, with bitcoin share about 59.4% and 24-hour volume near $71.5 billion.

Filings and venues moved first. The CFTC signed an NBA memorandum of understanding on prediction-market integrity. Bitmine reported 6,051,933 ETH as of 2:00 p.m. ET October 25. DeFi Development Corp. added 5,346 SOL. Kraken has a 60-minute order-entry window at about 10:00 UTC today. Aave Risk Stewards posted V4 cap lifts, Spark queued a November 5 spell, Magicians opened a CALLSTATUS opcode draft, and Ethresear published Lean proofs of EIP-7002 withdrawal contract.

  1. CFTC and NBA sign an MOU on basketball prediction-market integrity

The CFTC posted press 9314-26 on October 26 saying it signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Basketball Association to share information on sports integrity in prediction markets. Chairman Michael S. Selig said the NBA joins MLB and NHL, and named insider trading and fraud as the abuses the pact is meant to catch. The Commission also posted a CFTC-NBA MOU PDF. This is a data-sharing agreement, not a new event-contract rule.

  2. Bitmine reports 6,051,933 ETH and a 2.04 million-share buyback

Bitmine Immersion Technologies filed an 8-K (accession 0001493152-26-048429) on October 26 with Exhibit 99.1 dated the same day. As of 2:00 p.m. ET October 25 it reported 6,051,933 ETH at $2,356 per ETH, 215 bitcoin, $514 million of cash and marketable securities, and a 4.95% share of a 122.2 million ETH supply. The release says the firm bought 10,452 ETH over the past week and repurchased 2.04 million common shares at an average $22.48. This is an Item 7.01 Regulation FD update, not a close of the 5% target.

  3. DeFi Dev Corp. adds 5,346 SOL and lifts the CHAD coupon to 14%

DeFi Development Corp. filed an 8-K (accession 0001805526-26-000142) on October 26. Item 8.01 says SOL and SOL equivalents rose 5,346 from October 19 through October 23, to 2,595,612 from 2,590,266 as of October 16. Exhibit 99.1 notes Solana Alpenglow went live on mainnet on October 21, and that the Variable Rate Series C preferred (CHAD) annual dividend rate rises from 13.00% to 14.00% on November 2, 2026, or $1.40 per share on a $10.00 stated amount. The add is a treasury print, not a claim that Alpenglow is already routing those new coins.

  4. Kraken schedules a 60-minute order-entry pause at 10:00 UTC October 27

Kraken status incident jdbk8wj1lvhz, created October 26, schedules order-entry maintenance on Tuesday, October 27 starting at approximately 10:00 UTC for up to 60 minutes. During the window, Kraken Pro web, mobile, and desktop clients may see a very small number of rejected order submissions or modifications. WebSocket API clients may see a small number of rejects plus higher latency, and FIX API clients may see several seconds of rejected orders. Funding rails are not in this window. This is a new incident id, not a rerun of the October 26 pause.

  5. LlamaRisk posts Aave V4 cap lifts, including USDC 50M to 75M on Core

LlamaRisk posted Risk Stewards: Cap Increases on Aave V4 / 2026.10.26 on October 26. On Ethereum V4 it recommends raising the USDC add cap on the Core Hub Main Spoke from 50 million to 75 million, the USDG add cap on the same spoke from 90 million to 110 million, the WETH add cap from 60,000 to 90,000, and the LINK add cap from 900,000 to 1.8 million. The post says USDC on the Core Hub held 49.04 million added and 38.22 million drawn, 77.9% hub utilization, with Forex and Bluechip USDC draw caps already at 100%. These are steward recommendations, not an executed on-chain payload.

  6. Spark files a November 5 spell to turn on Base Diamond PAU and OUSD rails

A Spark forum post dated October 26 proposes six Spark spell actions plus one Sky Core change for November 5, 2026. On Base it would activate the Diamond PAU parallel controller on the existing ALM Proxy, open a CCTP V2 USDC route from Base to Ethereum, and move Beacon admin to the Sky governance relay. On Ethereum it would onboard OUSD mint and redeem through two Bridge deposit addresses and the Uniswap v4 OUSD/USDS pool, plus a recurring SparkLend reserve claim. Sky Core would raise ALLOCATOR-SPARK-A auto-line ttl from 12 hours to 24 hours. Payloads live in spark-spells pull 209. This is a proposed spell, not an executed executive vote.

  7. Magicians draft CALLSTATUS, a 2-gas opcode that reports the last call fate

Ethereum Magicians thread 30085, posted October 26, opens discussion of a CALLSTATUS instruction drafted in ethereum/EIPs pull 12586. The draft would add opcode 0xA5 at 2 gas that pushes three bits for the most recent CALL, CALLCODE, DELEGATECALL, STATICCALL, CREATE, or CREATE2 in the current frame: revert, exceptional halt, or a halt in a frame below. Documented values are 0, 1, 2, 4, and 5, with 0/1/2 matching EIP-7069. The author says gasleft() thresholds keep breaking across repricings, including EIP-8037 two-dimensional gas. This is an EIP draft, not a fork schedule.

  8. Ethresear: Lean proofs say EIP-7002 system call cannot fail a Prague block

An October 26 Ethresear post proves two properties of the Prague withdrawal-request contract at 0x00000961Ef480Eb55e80D19ad83579A64c007002 in Lean 4. The system call that EIP-7002 requires at the end of every block always succeeds, whatever storage holds, and uses at most 210,000 of the 30 million gas it is given. Requests leave in FIFO order across valid histories on Prague, Osaka, BPO1, and BPO2. The proofs run against Jaune, an executable EVM semantics, and use only Lean three standard axioms. This is a machine-checked argument about deployed bytecode, not a client release.

  9. Nethermind 2.2.2 ships the October 2026 .NET 10.0.14 security runtime

Nethermind tagged 2.2.2 on October 26 at 16:59 UTC as a patch on 2.2.1. Release notes say there are no Nethermind code, database-format, or configuration changes, and consensus behavior and fork schedules match 2.2.1, so operators can upgrade in place from any 2.2.x. Docker images move to mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/aspnet:10.0.14-resolute, and binaries bundle the 10.0.14 runtime via SDK 10.0.403. This is a runtime bump for Microsoft October 2026 out-of-band .NET security updates, not another Hoodi unschedule.
