Crypto brief: September 14, 2026

Spot crypto sold off overnight while protocol forums kept filing the real tape. The CoinGecko snapshot fetched at 00:29 UTC on September 14, 2026 put Bitcoin at $76,605, down 0.9% over 24 hours. Ether was $2,472.93, down 2.1%. Solana was $99.23, down 2.4%. Global market cap sat near $2.61 trillion, bitcoin dominance about 58.9%, and 24-hour volume about $53.5 billion.

The overnight stack is protocol paperwork, not a breakout. Researchers posted a Lean 4 SSZ library with codec proofs. A draft EIP would split execution payloads into 64 gossip chunks. Coinbase closed a short Solana send delay. Sky would lift Osero USDS mint limits from 5 million to 50 million, Aave drew a shared-signer note, Lido Alliance named a supervisor candidate, Compound was asked to wind down a quiet wstETH market, and Optimism wants Unichain on the same ProxyAdmin owners as OP Mainnet.

The tape sits next to Bitcoin history, Ethereum history, and Solana history. Pair the DeFi notes with DeFi and stablecoin, and the Coinbase delay with how to check exchange and withdrawal status.

  1. Researchers post SizzLean, a Lean 4 SSZ library with machine-checked codec proofs

Researchers posted SizzLean on Ethresear.ch at 15:22 UTC on September 13, 2026 as a Lean 4 implementation of Ethereum SSZ, with machine-checked proofs for roundtrip, non-malleability, and size bounds across consensus types in use. The library is independent, not an Ethereum Foundation release, and the README still calls it early-stage and experimental. Against ethereum/consensus-spec-tests release v1.6.0-beta.0 the authors list 2,188 of 2,188 in-scope ssz_generic wire-format cases, 1,585 of 1,585 ssz_static mainnet cases, and 38,991 of 38,991 on the minimal preset, covering forks through Fulu including ePBS containers. Progressive-container cases (292) sit outside the type language. Code is at etheorem/packages/SizzLean.

  2. EIP-8411 would split EIP-7732 execution payloads into 64 gossip chunks

Open GitHub pull request 12299, created September 4, 2026 and last updated September 9, is still a Draft networking EIP in editor review. EIP-8411 would replace EIP-7732 single execution_payload gossipsub topic with execution_payload_chunks: 64 chunks, a Merkle inclusion proof of depth 6, and a payload_chunks_root committed in the execution bid. Each chunk is meant to be verifiable from one bid signature plus an inclusion proof, so a peer can forward bytes before the full envelope arrives. The Magicians thread opened September 7, 2026. This is a specification draft, not a scheduled fork change.

  3. Coinbase resolved a 34-minute Solana send delay after 05:16 UTC on September 13

Coinbase opened a Solana delayed-sends incident at 05:16 UTC on September 13, 2026 (22:16 PDT on September 12) and marked it resolved at 05:50 UTC the same day, a 34-minute window with minor impact. The investigating note said some users saw delayed sends on Solana while receives, buys, sells, and fiat withdrawals and deposits stayed unaffected, and that funds were safe. The Solana component moved from degraded_performance back to operational when monitoring landed. This ticket is distinct from Coinbase DYDX and prediction-market incidents already in prior briefs.

  4. Sky Atlas week of September 14 would lift Osero USDS mint limits from 5 million to 50 million

Core GovOps posted the Atlas Edit Weekly Cycle for the week of September 14, 2026 at 18:47 UTC on September 11. The package would keep SKY and USDS staking reward rates equivalent, add Morpho vault curation that applies a 100% Instance Financial CRR to noncompliant vaults after the October 8, 2026 Executive Vote, and update the Osero artifact for the September 24 spell, including PAS Configurator authority and a rise in USDS mint and SparkLend USDS deposit rate limits from 5 million to 50 million USDS. It would also authorize an 800,000 USDS Grove Foundation grant for September expenses and October grants of 865,000 USDS to the Spark Foundation plus 45,000 USDS to the Spark Asset Foundation. Atlas pull request 331 holds the full text. This is a weekly edit proposal, not an executed spell.

  5. Researcher says one Aave Governance Guardian signer also sits on DeFi Saver admin Safe

Independent researcher spap posted at 18:55 UTC on September 11, 2026 that DeFi Saver admin Safe 0x25eFA336886C74eA8E282ac466BdCd0199f85BB9 (3-of-6) shares one signer with Aave official Governance Guardian Ethereum Safe 0xCe52ab41C40575B072A18C9700091Ccbe4A06710 (5-of-9, per aave-permissions-book). The author says they are not affiliated with Aave Labs or the DAO, that DeFi Saver is an unrelated automation protocol live since 2019, and that this is a structural observation rather than an allegation of wrongdoing. The write-up cites 339 protocols and 553 confirmed Safes, with addresses re-verified on-chain via getOwners(). The thread does not record an Aave policy change.

  6. Lido Alliance BORG proposes Leeward as supervisor, replacing temporary MetaLeX Pro

Lido Labs operations posted on September 8, 2026 at 07:35 UTC that Lido Alliance BORG Foundation proposes appointing Leeward Supervisors Limited as its new Supervisor, with temporary supervisor MetaLeX Pro, LLP resigning once the appointment takes effect. Leeward already serves as Supervisor of the Lido Labs Foundation. A Cayman Islands foundation company must keep at least one supervisor to hold the board to the bylaws. Next steps listed are community feedback, an LDO Snapshot vote in the next voting slot, then board implementation. Funding runs through the Ecosystem Grant gRequest. This is a proposal, not a completed appointment.

  7. Gauntlet would zero Compound Ethereum wstETH Comet supply caps after utilisation stuck near 9%

Gauntlet posted at 19:55 UTC on September 2, 2026 asking Compound to begin deprecating the Ethereum wstETH Comet at 0x3d0bb1ccab520a66e607822fc55bc921738fafe3 by zeroing the supply-side rate curve (100% of borrower interest to reserves) and setting every collateral supply cap to 0. Borrow rates, collateral factors, and liquidation parameters would stay put, and existing positions would not be forced out. Figures in the post: 280.23 wstETH supplied ($836,754, 93 suppliers), 24.16 wstETH borrowed ($72,146, 28 borrowers), 8.62% utilisation, and 22.33 wstETH of reserves ($66,665). Across 17,161 hourly snapshots from September 14, 2024 through September 2, 2026, mean utilisation was 26.6% and the 90% kink hit in 0.58% of prints. Base supply is down 95.5% from 6,269 wstETH at the end of July 2025. The on-chain vote is flagged for 3 to 4 weeks later so large LPs can exit.

  8. Optimism would move Unichain ProxyAdmin to the same 2-of-2 owners as OP Mainnet

Optimism posted a maintenance upgrade at 08:29 UTC on September 2, 2026 to move Unichain Mainnet (chain ID 130) ProxyAdmin ownership to the same L1 and L2 owners as OP Mainnet. On L1 that is a shift from the current 3-of-3 Safe (Chain Governor, Foundation Upgrade Safe, and Security Council) at 0x6d5B183F538ABB8572F5cD17109c617b994D5833 to the standard 2-of-2 OP-governed L1PAO at 0x5a0Aae59D09fccBdDb6C6CcEB07B7279367C3d2A, removing the Chain Governor. The post says the change is administrative and does not modify protocol behavior for end users. Motive: interop wants participating chains on one security model so upgrades can land atomically. Voting is an off-cycle special cycle with the standard veto period, via superchain-ops tasks 069 and 070.
